Stunning Gibson 1967 SG Special with interesting spec and history:
“This was originally acquired from the USA around 12 years ago and it does come with a bit of history – The body, neck and scratch plate all indicate an SG from around 1967 – Yet the serial number and pots all indicate 1961 – The info he acquired, at the time of purchase, is that it was originally a 1961 model that was seriously damaged – It was returned to the Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, for repair/restoration – This was an option available at the time, so not an unusual event – All the hardware and electrics were rescued from the original model and now fitted to what is a replacement 67 body/neck – It also retained its original 5 digit serial number from the 1961 neck – Given the fact that the body/neck/finish is from the 67 era, when the large scratchplate was first utilised, it is fair to market this SG Special with a circa 67 date and priced accordingly”.
Pots date to ’61 (on the pot rim), pick ups out put around 9.7k.
All checks out under the backlights as it should.
Naturally, which you can’t quite see in the photos is the natural crazing all over as I would expect to see on a vintage gibson. Fantastic patina and the darker cherry as per the year is also correct.
It comes in a hard, possibly original case. Plays absolutely wonderful.
