This is very cool, player grade Gibson 1974 SG Special.

Notably this would have originally had mini humbuckwers but has been routed in the late 80’s for hum buckers, which is now loaded with DiMarzio Super Distortion pick ups which sound very cool!

Now this has one great story and history as you can see by the rear photos.

A good friend of mine has owned this originally from the early 80’s. Being a big fan of SRV and JV who he saw a few times, plus his brother has photos of SRV sit-in on his motorbike outside the Apollo in Manchester.

Anyway, in ’86 they went to see Jimmy Vaughan at The Hacienda in Manchester (of course!) and asked the bouncers if they could go back stage to see the band, to which they said yes but be quick. So they took their guitars and had them signed by the whole band. Later he did sell the the SG to a friend who had the pick ups installed and two coil split switches which are now removed, also an overspray to conserve the signatures just on the body rear. It doesn’t really affect the value with the signatures but adds a really nice history and story from a personal friend who has since having back has owned for the last 35 years.

No neck breaks, pots are original. This is one solid player and very resonant. Some can feel a little moveable with slim necks but this has a really comfy medium C and 41mm nut.

Though player grade based on originality, this has to be one of the best playing 70’s SG’s that has passed through the shop in a long time, having a more modern feel about it than some. The brass nut also makes a huge difference.

Notably there are some marks and wear. The frets are very clean with light wear.

Comes with it’s original hard case which is clean to the eye but the hinges have failed but all the latches are intact and keep lid in place.

This is a great SG!

Although every guitar is checked at the point of buy in for condition we try to describe as accurately as possible and with the nature of every vintage, modern, used guitar you will always find blemishes held in certain lights that we have not solely pointed out. 

These are usually very small lacquer marks or polish swirls and you have to expect a margin of very light marks that go undetected in usual lit environments.
