About the Gibson 1976 Bicentennial Firebird

Lucky to have this one in my possession. I have pondered this one for a while prior to uploading as the finish is a bit of a mystery being that the Cherry Red was not an available colour for the ’76 Year.
The Bicentenial was made from ’76 to ’79, mainly in White, Black and Tobacco Burst.
There has been one unsubstantiated other Cherry witnessed but I can’t vouch for that.
There are no obvious 100% signs of a refinish though it will have to be sold under the premises that it is. The cavities and as they should be, there is crazing and lacquer checking and it black lights superbly as any true original finish should. There is a little sticker under the neck pick top cavity which states ‘Tri-Damsen’.
The serial, although faint to read is 00247222. I am told that the rear of the neck had a lacquer wear that was blown over but once again this shows no evidence under black light. Also not repairs to the neck through the truss cavity etc. Signs that it may have had a P90 in the bridge position at one time due to the angled rout corners being squared off to use a soap bar though not engaged at all.
Bridge has a modern Nashville as per original. Original Banjo Tuners are great and work as they should.
SO, it could be factory but for the case of knowing what this is, I am not saying that the finish is original, basically to save me any hassles over verifying what it is. I’ll let you decide. If it is a refinish then it was done a very Long time ago to a factory quality finish.
The pots are original and date ’76 and the pickups are original sideways bobbin Mini’s and they do sound incredible.
Nice balance, not loads of neck dive. Original 76 Bird logo still present on the guard too.
There is a lot to say about his guitar, it plays fantastic.Frets are original and in good order.
The original case is also in good condition and is nice to see it remain with the guitar.
This is a must to view and play.
Feel free to enquire on the phone.

Although every guitar is checked at the point of buy in for condition we try to describe as accurately as possible and with the nature of every vintage, modern, used guitar you will always find blemishes held in certain lights that we have not solely pointed out.
These are usually very small lacquer marks or polish swirls and you have to expect a margin of very light marks that go undetected in usual lit environments.
