This is one rare and fabulous amp.
This is made by Doug Sewell who went on to develop amps for PRS and still to this day. There are some interesting reads on line to check out about him.
Doug hand made amps is small numbers, mostly to order as this one was early on just over 20 years ago in USA. You had to order to export these and as far as I know they were not ‘off the shelf’ production.
It’s 006 made in 2001 named “Bobby Dale” which Doug did before he gave them actual numbers for serials.
Beautifully made, Atom smoothing caps, orange drop tone and huge chassis bolts!
The logo says 5AR / GZ34 for the rectifier but has the 4AU which is softer and more compressed with about -20vdc.
It is switchable 22w and 40w Fender deluxe / pro amp voiced design. The rear switch is a cathode bias / fixed bias and the one on the control panel is bright / normal.
This can really move some air! I have had my eye on this for a while so when I was offered it I had to have it. I think I have only seen others in images. Not many were exported so is most likely on of a hand full in the UK and is 240v. Speaker is a Celestion G12-65.
Nice condition with minor wear otherwise fir it’s age it’s very good.
This is one of the nicest looking designs too, certainly one to remember.
Ok so tonally this reminds me of a Black face Deluxe and on the 40w setting the head room is plenty before you gat into break up territory though always has that big feel to it and is hugely responsive to your playing dynamic.
On the 22w, my preferred setting, the lower wattage gets cooking easier but still has headroom. This is one loud amp. It’s quite lighter in weight too that you’d expect, for some reason the visual says ‘heavy’ but is quite surprising, don’t get me wrong, it’s no feather but pleasant enough on the lift.
Have a look online for additional specs. This runs on a pair of 6L6.
